Aadhaar Card Update 2025: UIDAI Makes Biometric Updates Free for Children Aged 7–15, Step-by-Step Guide Inside

Aadhaar Card Update 2025: UIDAI has removed biometric update fees for children aged 5–17, offering families a full year of free Aadhaar updates starting October 1, 2025.

UIDAI’s New Aadhaar Biometric Update Rule

The Unique Identification Authority of India has announced a one-year waiver on all charges for mandatory biometric updates for children. The rule came into effect on October 1, 2025, and applies to children between 5 and 17 years of age. This move aims to make Aadhaar updates simpler and more accessible for families across the country.

Under Aadhaar regulations, every child must update their biometrics twice. The first update is required once the child turns five, and the second update must be done between the ages of 15 and 17. These updates include fingerprints, iris scans, and a fresh photograph.

Until now, these updates were free only if completed between the age brackets of 5–7 and 15–17. If done later, parents had to pay a fee of ₹125. With the latest waiver, biometric updates will remain free for all children in the 5–17 age group, regardless of when the update is carried out during the one-year period.

How Mandatory Biometric Updates Work

When a child turns five, the Aadhaar details captured earlier as a baby are no longer valid for identification. This is when the first mandatory biometric update is required. It includes collecting fingerprints, iris data, and a new photograph.

The second mandatory update must be done when the child reaches 15 years of age. This ensures all biometric information remains accurate as the child grows.

The new one-year waiver makes both these updates free for all ages between 5 and 17, giving families more flexibility and removing cost concerns.

Why This Waiver Is Important

This policy change is expected to benefit millions of families. Aadhaar is required for essential services such as school admissions, scholarship applications, government schemes, and identity verification. Keeping biometric records updated helps avoid delays or verification issues.

By removing the ₹125 fee for updates done outside earlier free age windows, the government has encouraged parents to complete mandatory updates without hesitation.

Validity and Recommendations for Parents

The waiver is valid for one year, starting from October 1, 2025. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of this period and update their child’s Aadhaar details at the earliest. The updates can be completed at any Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorized enrollment center.

Once the waiver period ends, biometric updates done outside the free windows may again involve charges, so timely completion is advised.
