Mahindra XUV 5XO: Mahindra is gearing up to fill the gap in the mid-size SUV segment, and the upcoming XUV 5XO could become the brand’s strongest rival to the Hyundai Creta with power, tech, and modern design.
Mahindra XUV 5XO Positioning in the SUV Market
Over the years, the Indian SUV market has grown rapidly, pushing Mahindra to evolve its product lineup. While the brand offers powerful SUVs packed with technology and road presence, it still lacks a traditional mid-size SUV that can stand head-to-head with bestsellers like the Hyundai Creta. The XUV 5XO is expected to fill this missing space and strengthen Mahindra’s presence in the urban SUV category.

Mahindra already has rugged options like the Thar Roxx, but its large stance, off-road personality, and heavy build do not appeal to every buyer. Many urban users prefer SUVs that are compact enough for daily city traffic yet comfortable, efficient, and easy to live with. This is exactly where the XUV 5XO could make the perfect entry.
By positioning itself above the XUV 3XO, this upcoming model can offer a blend of practicality, premium features, and a refined city-friendly character. The best part is that Mahindra does not need to develop it from scratch, as the base is already prepared.

NU_IQ Platform Capabilities
Mahindra unveiled its next-generation NU_IQ platform on 15 August 2025. This flexible architecture supports both ICE and electric powertrains, making it future-ready. It can accommodate SUVs ranging from 3,990 mm to 4,320 mm in length, giving Mahindra the freedom to build multiple models on a single base.
The Vision X concept, built on this platform, is believed to be the first teaser of the XUV 5XO. Although the concept is under four metres, the platform’s capabilities clearly indicate that a 4.3-metre SUV like the XUV 5XO can be developed with ease.
Mahindra XUV 5XO Design Expectations

If the production model carries forward the Vision X design DNA, the XUV 5XO will look much sportier and more modern compared to the older XUV500. Expected highlights include a muscular raised bonnet, sharp body lines, large 18-inch alloy wheels, flush-fit door handles, and a futuristic rear profile with signature lighting elements.
Inside, the SUV is likely to feature curved connected displays inspired by the Vision X, along with rectangular AC vents, a stylish three-spoke steering wheel, and a wide central console. Thanks to the NU_IQ platform, the cabin is expected to offer generous space and improved practicality.

XUV 5XO Expected Engine Options
Mahindra’s reputation for strong engines is well known, and the XUV 5XO is likely to carry forward this DNA. The upcoming SUV is expected to use the same powertrains offered in the XUV 3XO — a 1.2-litre TGDi petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both engines are among the most powerful in their current segment.
Since the XUV 5XO will be a larger and more capable SUV, Mahindra may tune these engines for higher performance to match its added size and weight, making it competitive against established mid-size rivals.
