Utpanna Ekadashi 2025 Vrat Katha

According to the scriptures, Lord Krishna narrated the story of Utpanna Ekadashi to Yudhishthira. He explained that in the ancient Satyuga, a powerful demon named Mur emerged. Strong and cunning, Mur defeated Indra and many other deities, spreading fear across the heavens.

Unable to face the growing threat, the defeated gods approached Lord Shiva and shared their plight. Shiva advised them to take refuge in Lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe, assuring them that Vishnu alone could restore balance.

Deities Seek Lord Vishnu’s Help

Following Shiva’s guidance, the gods traveled to the Kshirsagar, where Lord Vishnu was in deep yogic rest. With folded hands, they prayed and explained how Mur had conquered the heavens. Hearing their appeal, Vishnu asked Indra about the demon responsible for such destruction. Indra revealed that Mur was the son of a former demon named Nadijangha and had now taken complete control over Swargalok.

Vishnu assured them that he would soon eliminate the demon and began his journey toward Chandravati city, where Mur was stationed with a massive army. A fierce battle erupted between the deities and the demon forces, lasting for nearly ten thousand years.

The Birth of the Divine Energy

During the battle, Vishnu entered a cave named Hemvati to rest and slipped into yogic sleep. Mur followed him and, seeing him at rest, attempted to strike. At that very moment, a radiant and divine feminine energy emerged from Vishnu’s body.

The goddess challenged Mur and fought a powerful battle, eventually defeating and killing him. When Vishnu awoke, he learned what had taken place and blessed the goddess, declaring that since she was born on the day of Ekadashi, she would be worshipped as Utpanna Ekadashi. Her appearance would mark the beginning of the sacred Ekadashi observances.
