Srinagar Nowgam Blast: A late-night blast at Nowgam police station in Srinagar has claimed multiple lives and sparked nationwide concern as investigators connect it to a wider terror network.
Srinagar Blast: Casualties and Late-Night Chaos
A powerful explosion shook the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, late Thursday night around 11:20 PM. Seven people lost their lives and at least 27 others suffered injuries. Officials fear the toll could rise further as several critical patients are undergoing treatment at the 92 Army Base Hospital and Srinagar Hospital. The blast triggered fires in several vehicles and caused significant damage to nearby houses, shattering windows across the area. Its shockwave was strong enough to be heard in Chhanpora, Santanagar, Rawalpora and parts of Pantha Chowk.
Explosives Seized in Haryana Led to the Incident
The explosion occurred while police were examining explosive material that had been seized earlier from a rented accommodation in Faridabad, Haryana. The house belonged to Dr Muzammil Ganai, who had been arrested in connection with a terror module. During the sampling process at the Nowgam police station, around 360 kg of ammonium nitrate detonated, causing the devastating blast. More than a dozen vehicles were reportedly engulfed in flames as a result.

Investigation Began After Threat Posters in Nowgam
The first case linked to this inter-state terror network was registered at the Nowgam police station itself. In October, threatening posters targeting police and security personnel surfaced in the Banpora area of Nowgam, prompting authorities to open a case on October 19 and form a special investigation team. Based on CCTV evidence, police detained three men: Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, Yasir-ul-Ashraf and Maqsood Ahmed Dar alias Shahid. During questioning, the trio mentioned Maulana Irfan Ahmed from Shopian, who is accused of influencing young professionals, including doctors. This revelation expanded the investigation to Faridabad, eventually leading officers to Muzammil Ganai’s rented house where the seized explosives originated.
Red Fort Metro Blast: 13 Killed in Delhi
Just days earlier, on the evening of November 10, a deadly explosion took place near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi. A white Hyundai i20 was blown apart, killing 13 people and injuring 20 more. Three of the injured remain in critical condition. Security agencies later learned that the blast was linked to terrorists associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed, who were reportedly planning coordinated attacks across several Indian cities. Intelligence inputs suggest they intended to execute a major incident on December 6.
