State Launches Solar Scheme Offering 100% Free Electricity for Homes

State Launches Solar Scheme: The state government has introduced an innovative Solar Scheme offering free electricity for homes, promoting local solar panel manufacturing and clean energy adoption.

New Solar Scheme for Domestic Consumers

In a major step towards sustainable energy, the state government has rolled out a new Solar Scheme that ensures free electricity for domestic users. Announced by the Chief Minister on March 27, 2025, this initiative supports households that install Indian-made solar panels under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana.

Under this plan, homeowners opting for locally manufactured solar panels will receive an additional ₹17,000 subsidy from the state government. This benefit is exclusive to users choosing domestically produced panels, thereby boosting the Make in India initiative and curbing dependency on imported solar equipment.

Financial Structure and Free Electricity Benefits

Currently, the state allocates around ₹6,200 crore annually under the Chief Minister’s Free Electricity Scheme, offering rebates up to ₹562.50 per household.

With this new scheme, domestic consumers can install 1.1 kW solar panels on their rooftops. The central government will contribute ₹33,000, while the state adds ₹17,000, covering the full installation cost of ₹50,000.

As a result, consumers can now enjoy free electricity and switch to solar energy without any out-of-pocket expenses. According to DISCOM data, around 1.04 lakh households across the state qualify for this benefit.

Subsidy Cap for High-Capacity Solar Panels

For those installing larger solar systems, the state government has clarified that the maximum subsidy remains ₹17,000, regardless of the panel capacity. While the central subsidy stays consistent for higher capacities, users may need to bear additional costs if they opt for larger setups such as running a 1.5-ton air conditioner or multiple heavy appliances.

Key Objectives of the Solar Initiative

This initiative aims to promote renewable energy, reduce household power bills, and strengthen local manufacturing. By rewarding consumers who choose Indian-made panels, the government encourages self-reliance while safeguarding the environment.

Officials believe this two-tier subsidy model will transform the state into a clean energy leader, offering affordable, sustainable power to every home.
